Chapter Books and Short Stories for New Readers

Chapter Books are written for children around the ages of 6 to 9 years. They average about 20,000 words with a slightly larger font than a middle grade book. They tend to come in at less than 100 pages.

They are thought of as that bridge between middle grade books and children's books. The chapters tend to be shorter than in middle grade books, but with a bit more illustrations, though often in black and white.
