DESCRIPTION
Many ancient clay and stone figurines depicting people and animals have been found worldwide. Some of the figurines are decorative and some have uses such as pipes, utensils and various vessels.
They have also been found at many sites across North America, including caves, cliff dwellings, kivas, pithouses, pueblos and ceremonial and mounds. The clay effigies found at these sites give insight into the people and animals of the region.
Take your time and enjoy the entire process of designing and shaping the features of your clay figurine just as the artists who made these hundreds and thousands of years ago did! The finished item will be air-dried.
These are a great homeschool addition to any unit over ancient art, modeling clay, or ancient history, especially of neolithic peoples. 3rd and/or 4th grades usually have units like this. Also a great rainy day activity to have on hand!
