DESCRIPTION

Orpheus in the Underworld

As the son of a muse, the young musician Orpheus has everything: talent, handsome looks, courage, love. Then, in a moment, everything is lost. His bride Eurydice is killed in a terrible accident and has been sent to live in the Underworld.

Armed only with his lyre, Orpheus enters the desolate Underworld, where no mortal has ever gone before. He's determined to achieve the impossible--bring his wife back to life, restore their happiness, and ensure he's never in danger of losing her again.

This gorgeous book retells the tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice in a way newly relatable to young readers. Through its epic illustrations and captivating, carefully researched text, it earns its place in the literary canon.

WHAT IS A TOON GRAPHIC

TOON Graphics are stories written, or rewritten, with the illustrations in a comic book style. This is a highly engaging visual narrative that brings the text to life in a way that captures young readers’ imaginations and makes them want to read on—and read more. A Toon Graphic can make a difficult story easier for a young reader to process.

The very act of using this style requires the user to make connections and draw conclusions. This pulls on their use of imagination and pulls them into the story in such a way that they connect with the story on a deeper level, especially for kids at that cross roads age of needing to “see” the concrete, but starting to understand or at least tinker with the abstract, its constructs and the bigger meanings.

This skill of the abstract and of seeing the bigger picture generally develops between 4th to 7th grades, depending upon the child. Toon Graphics can be extra beneficial during this age range and grade range, especially when dealing with difficult vocabulary, classical literature, such as Orpheus, and more complex, overlapping meanings.
