Our cherry wood, hand-crafted, size 10 knitting needles are a pleasure to use for the beginning knitter at any age, but especially for children. They are individually hand-crafted and polished with non-toxic, all natural beeswax.
Wood is known as the best material for knitting needles and is popular among experienced knitters. This wood, size 10 needle is also the easiest needle for learning to knit. At around 8.25” long it's a great fitting needle for younger children and beginners--not too long, not too short.
In Waldorf classrooms, children learn to knit with size 10 needles in class 1, or 1st grade. This Waldorf handwork is considered an important craft as it not only teaches children how clothing is developed, it also creates a tactile experience, increases finger and hand dexterity, exercises multiple parts of the brain, involves a bit of mathematical reasoning, promotes eye-hand coordination and teaches a useful life skill for creating toys, gifts and clothing in the future.
While knitting, children are counting stitches, following number and color and stitch patterns, coordinating left and right hand movement, using spatial awareness and practicing focus and concentration.
Staff Favorite: We love teaching our children knitting with these needles. They feel warm on your fingers and seem to get more comfortable with more use and are a good size for small hands until they get the hang of it.
Protect your investment by keeping your knitting needles beautifully conditioned with Needle Wax.
