Books 9-10 Years

9 and 10 year-olds are loving more advanced chapter books and middle grade books full of adventure, mystery, intrigue and fun. They are developing a fascination with mythology and discovering other cultures and are starting to read books which will be memorable to them. They also tend to love nature and craft books.

And don't underestimate the well-illustrated picture book! 9 and 10 year-olds will still pick up a high-quality picture book and can easily handle those written with much more text. It's still a great choice, especially for nonfiction and biographies. 

Offer many genre choices, but make them high-quality choices that are so well written, your child is easily pulled along with the hero on his or her journey, the knight's quest, the mysterious mansion, the beautiful, sunny island, or the pacific northwest neighborhood. 

These selections are teacher preferred. There is some overlap in this age-range with easier chapter books and harder chapter books, as well as mythology, nonfiction and biography, as this age often has a wide range of proficient readers to those still developing the skill.
