WHAT IS KITE PAPER?
Kite paper is a type of sturdy wax paper traditionally used to make kites. Available in different colors, it can also be used for other crafts. This semi-translucent paper allows the light to show through with a gentle warmth and a translucent gloss that makes the light almost seem to glow. Because it allows light to pass through showing off colors like stained glass, it makes a beautiful transparent window craft, such as translucent kite paper scenes layered behind heavy cardboard paper frames.
There are many variations of color combinations, folding and cutting used to create unique and stunning stars to hang from the ceilings or on window panes, and it’s a great geometry activity too. Kite paper is a favorite of many families and educators for the beautiful Waldorf window stars it creates. It can be used for many kinds of creative artwork beyond window stars: lanterns, hanging stars or garland, window transparent scenes, snowflakes, pinwheels, kites and your own creations!
