DESCRIPTION
A braiding fork or knitting fork, also called a lucet or lucet knitting, is a traditional wooden braiding fork that can introduce children to knitting. This traditional Waldorf handcraft is a fun way for children to work on their finger dexterity and fine motor skills while getting a hands on approach to see and understand how yarn knits together.
This ancient tool method dates back to medieval times for knitting or braiding strong cords with a series of loops that are knotted together and was most likely introduced by the Vikings.
This 6.5" lucet is handmade of a hardwood called Birchwood from a locally owned forest in Estonia and hand-crafted in Germany. The lucet creates a very sturdy, square cord, which is quite elastic and will not fully unravel when a thread snaps. This means it is a good choice for clothing attachments, zipper pulls, to hang items from, to wear as bracelets, as hair ties, as backpack attachments, sewn into various objects like butterflies and doll blankets or dollhouse rugs and more.
Children love watching their knitted yarn grow longer and longer and will excitedly show others their progress and continue day after to day to work on their piece.
Choose with or without yarn.
