DESCRIPTION
Made by hand from a family of artisans in Perl, Germany, this is a reproduction of a medieval surcoat but in sizes for kids to wear for pretend play or as a costume.
Made of pure, durable 100% heavy duty cotton, the double lined red and black surcoat splits in front and back for easy mounting of the knight’s faithful steed. The ties included under the arms along the sides are so that this fun pretend play piece grows with your child to last through as many years as possible.
The coat-of-arms on the breast of each surcoat makes it easy to see which noble family said knight hails from.
METALLIC THREAD OR EMBROIDERED RED AND BLACK COAT OF ARMS
When we order the red and black surcoats, we sometimes receive the red and black embroidered lion coat of arms, sometimes receive a metallic thread patch lion coat of arms and sometimes receive both.
We will list which are in stock for you so that you know what your choice will be. Both are fabulously done, and either would make your little knight proud.

- The Lion represents strength and valor.
- The Eagle represents both fortitude and generosity.
- The Dragon represents courage.
SIZES
Both size 1 and size 2 can expand in width thanks to the laces along the side. The length, however, will not change.
SIZE 1
Size 1 Surcoats measure approximately 65 cm (25.5”) long by 40 cm (15.75”) across the chest.
They best fit most children between the ages of 3 to 5 years.
A smaller 6 year old should be fine in this size too, but remember they usually hit a growth spurt around 6-7 years and will outgrow this size quickly.
SIZE 2
Size 2 Surcoats measure approximately 87 cm (34.25”) long by 47 cm (18.5”) across the chest. They best fit most children between the ages of 7 to 12 years.
A 6 year old may be okay in this size as they tend to hit a growth spurt during this year. If it seems a tad long for your six year old, we found a nice belt or sash to blouse the top portion over does the trick until they grow a bit taller.
CARE
Surcoats are washable in mild temperatures. Remove laces first or wash garment in a laundry bag to keep laces from tangling around other clothes.
We recommend cold or warm water temperatures only. Air dry or dry on low temperature.
